What is a Periodontal Therapist?

A periodontal therapist incorporates non-surgical periodontal therapy into his or her dental practice, and is part of an effective dental hygiene team. We use the term to describe what it is that we do. In effect, we perform non-invasive and minimally invasive periodontal therapy.

What is Therapeutic Laser Care?

Therapeutic Laser Care, or TLC, is a protocol that uses a laser to treat the moderate and severe forms of gum disease. Like LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure), the laser fiber is inserted between the teeth and the gum tissue and the infection is cleared away without any cutting or stitching of the gums. TLC is the cornerstone of my practice, as it is customized to each patient's specific needs.

Gum disease is an infection of the gum tissue, bone, and ligaments that attach the root of the tooth to the bone. The number one cause of gum disease is the accumulation of plaque, which is a sticky film of bacteria and food debris that is constantly forming on your teeth. The minerals in your saliva harden the plaque and turn it into tartar. Brushing and flossing after every meal can remove the plaque and prevent it from forming tartar, but once tartar forms on your teeth, your toothbrush and floss cannot remove it - only your dentist can.

All About LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)

LANAP is a patented procedure used to treat moderate and severe periodontal disease by using a laser rather than a scalpel and stitches. With LANAP, a small laser fiber is placed between the teeth and the gums, and infection is removed without any cutting the gums at all. In fact, the laser targets only diseased tissue while at the same time conserving healthy gum tissue and root structures.
